Arthur Murray district showcases are designed to be milestones in a student’s dance journey.
Showcase vs Competition
What’s the difference? The thing that really differentiates the two is that showcases are not ranked. Instead, dancers receive written feedback on their dancing to help them improve moving forward. Competitions, on the other hand, give dancers placements in comparison to other people of the same gender, age and dance experience level.
What’s the Big Deal?
One great reason to attend these events is you will meet new dancing friends, and form even closer bonds with the team at the studio you study at! You will see your new friends over and over at these kinds of events throughout the year.
For you and your partner, whether an instructor or a romantic partner, it’s a great exercise in teamwork and building your chemistry. Also, by moving out of your comfort zone and sharing the floor with others you may not know yet, your confidence will skyrocket!
Showcases are also a great way to measure your progress without being compared to other dancers. You will receive feedback from world-class teachers, and they might offer a new look on certain skills that you were struggling with.
What Should you Expect to Experience at a District Showcase?
District showcases in this region includes studios from Westchester (White Plains, Mt. Kisco, Yonkers), Manhattan and Western Connecticut.
On Saturday night is a social dance party. Every year has a different theme! Our guests will also enjoy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar.
All day on Sunday will be freestyles in any dance you can think of. Freestyles are when we have multiple couples dancing at the same time on the floor. This is where the “judges” are able to give the feedback to the dancers. At the end of the day will be a professional performance where the staff gets to show their stuff!
