Hustle began shortly before the 70s but really gained its popularity with the rise of disco as it evolved into the New York Hustle which would be featured in Saturday Night Live. It still involves disco today but more specifically refers to unique partner dances (popular in nightclubs and ballrooms). At Arthur Murray of Danbury we can help you get your groove on with our Hustle Lessons.

Hustle is generally believed to have originated in Bronx, New York and a few variations arose. The dance began to spread and became more and more popular in nightclubs throughout the country. Van Mcoy’s hustle would further drive the dance into the spotlight as it stayed on the charts for 18 weeks. The dance became so popular that the most well known New York variation of the dance would feature heavily in 1977’s Saturday Night Fever. While the 70s might have been the peak of the dance’s popularity, Hustle is still danced throughout the country and is great for beginners to start with and competitors to perfect.
At Arthur Murray of Danbury we love Hustle and love being able to spread this love to others. Come join us to experience the thrill of Hustle for yourself!
