History of Bachata Dancing

Bachata dancing originated in the Dominican Republic. The basic dance consists of a 4-step movement from side-to-side as well as front-to-back. Once a person relaxes into the dance, these movements will also include hip and arm movements for the female and shoulder and some hip movements for the male. In the beginning going back to the 60s, partners doing the Bachata danced closely with each other, similar to the Bolero style of dancing. However, the dance has evolved over the years so that now it comprises a series of different types of footwork, turns, and freestyle movements that include syncopated hip moves and tapping of the feet. As with all dancing, everyone also shares in receiving hours of intense, significant exercise which enhances life for all involved. Since this dance continues to grow all the time, Bachata dancers can look forward to the unceasing excitement and just plain fun!

Arthur Murray of Greater Danbury CT is here to welcome everyone into the exciting world of dance. The benefits of this lifestyle are countless and the enjoyment is unsurpassed.
